Farewell To A Fine Friend

On Friday, January 6, 2006 my dog Rocket was hit by a speeding truck. I was emotionless at first, but the shock ran through me like an electric current. My Rocket, the one who woke up at 6 a.m. to see me off to AP, the one who you couldn't get a piece of food past, the one who always wanted to run and play, and when you called her she hopped like a bunny rabbit - that dog is gone forever.

Not only was the whole event traumatic, it made me realize how unpredictable it all is. My sister Bethany had just gotten home from a conference and the dogs, always elated at someone entering the house, ran to Bethany, greeted her, and promptly ran outside to find out the business in the neighborhood. Rocket had been outside countless times, waiting for cars to go by before she pooped in a neighbor's yard. But this time was different....

I do have the comfort that Rocket went quickly and she did not suffer. She died without pain as it was almost instantaneous....Even though her life was cut short, drastically short, she was still a load of fun to be with when she was alive.....Rest in Peace Rocket Posted by Picasa

If sin keeps us from heaven and animals are sinless, then they surely have a place in heaven.
They never stopped doing what they were meant to- giving glory to God.

Thank you for the wonderful tribute to a faithful friend! Yes, Rocket is missed. I, too, am extremely grateful that she did not suffer when she was hit.
